You have a choice of three engine options with the 2019 Ford Explorer, beginning with the standard 3.5-liter V6 that makes 290 horsepower and 255-pound-feet of torque.

An available 2.3-liter EcoBoost® inline-four delivers 280 horsepower, 310 pound-feet of torque and the top fuel economy in the engine roster.

Eau Claire drivers who want even more power should consider the Sport and Platinum trim levels, which are equipped with a standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 that generates best-in-class 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

The Sport and Platinum models come with all-wheel drive, which is an available -- and recommended -- option for all other trim levels.

Safety

The Ford MyKey system comes standard on all Explorer models. This feature allows parents to establish maximums for both vehicle speed and audio volume when others are driving the SUV, helping to reinforce the good driving habits your young driver has just learned.

The introductory Explorer comes with all of the standard features we've already mentioned.

Explorer XLT adds keypad access, proximity key, push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear parking sensors, satellite radio, and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger's seat. The driver's seat gets upgraded to a 10-way power-adjustment.

Explorer Limited upgrades the infotainment system to a SYNC® 3 8-inch touchscreen. Other standard amenities include two 4.2-inch driver information displays, leather seats, a 180-degree front parking camera, heated and cooled front seats, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, dual-zone climate control, and hands-free liftgate.

Explorer Sport boasts a sport-tuned suspension, as well as standard hill descent control, terrain management system, and an upgraded towing package.

Explorer Platinum includes such active safety technologies as forward collision warning with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, active park assist.
